Title: The Waves

Abstract: The Waves is a play that explores birth, early motherhood and postpartum depression through text, movement and sound, and a vocal score that stretches the boundaries of conventional vocal expression (talking, whispering, screaming, singing) into territory that is familiar but not often heard on stage: grunts and growls, broken clicks and howls, sighs, screams and operatic song. Entitled The Waves, the script follows the story of the main character Lise, from the birth of her two babies through the tedious detail of one day in her life as a new mother.
