dc.description.abstract Denitrification is a central process in the nitrogen cycle. In this research, the genome of denitrifier Pseudomonas mandelii PD30 was characterized. Gene expression was also examined in the rhizosphere and under pure culture conditions. Genome sequencing showed P. mandelii PD30 contained a full denitrification gene set, and also a second gene set encoding nitrous oxide and nitric oxide reductases. By incubating soil containing 107 and 105 CFU g-1 dry soil of P. mandelii for 20 days in pots containing an actively growing wheat plant, the influence of the rhizosphere on denitrification gene expression was examined. The expression and abundance of narG and norB was not influenced by the presence of a wheat rhizosphere in the treatments performed. en_US
