dc.description.abstract This thesis project is a collection of interconnected short stories giving a fictionalized history of my mother who appears in every story as a background character. We see her go from a child to a teenager to a mother and, eventually, a grandmother. The stories are told from multiple perspectives, a couple are omniscient and others are told other perspectives: her younger brother, townspeople who grew up with her, myself, and my sister. Through this polyphony of voices, one life will be observed in an extreme long shot, providing more context and a fuller view of how generations connect and collapse into each other like cards. Patterns repeat through language and through story to portray how grief is inherited through generations, passed from mother to daughter through narrative as much as through biology. en_US
