Title: The Startup Library: Pitch Competition
Author: D’Elia, M.J.
Abstract: In the winter of 2013 the University of Guelph Library funded an experimental staff development initiative called "The Startup Library." The goal of this program was to explore what libraries might be like if we adopted a Startup mindset. Course material was based on popular business books like Business Model Generation (Alexander Osterwalder), The Lean Startup (Eric Ries), and Change by Design (Tim Brown). The workshops were modelled on the course outline for MCS*4100 (Entrepreneurship) taught by M.J. D'Elia at the University of Guelph. To increase impact, other libraries were invited to participate in this professional development experiment. Participants worked in small groups to propose innovative new services and products. The TUG 2013 conference will provide the first opportunity for participants to pitch their ideas to an outside audience.
