Abstract:
|
Virus diarrhea was first reported as a disease of cattle in 1946 and mucosal disease was first reported in 1953. Certain features were common to both and the question of a relationship between two diseases immediately arose. Since 1953 other similar syndromes have been reported from many parts of the world, but most have been clinical and pathological descriptions. The etiology of the various syndromes received relatively little attention until a cytopathogenic strain of virus diarrhea virus was isolated in tissue culture in 1960. Recent literature from more than one source has suggested that virus diarrhea and mucosal disease were related. This study was undertaken to determine with an integrated pathological, clinical and serological study of the two diseases whether, in fact, any relationships existed between them. |
