Abstract
Anaplasmosis is second only to brucellosis as a source of economic loss to the Louisiana cattle industry. The aim of this research was to develop means of protecting this livestock industry from anaplasmosis. In order to establish a sound basis for an eventual anaplasmosis control program, three major goals were outlined as the immediate objectives of this research program: 1. Development of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of anaplasmosis. 2. Carrier-stage sterilization in recovered animals. 3. The study of diagnostic procedures for the detection of carrier animals. This research constitutes a part of the continuing effort supported by the federal government of the United States and the state of Louisiana, dedicated to the ultimate control of this disease.
