Title: People Experiencing Disability with Episodic Limitations: The Impact on Their Experience in the Workplace
Author: Furrie, Adele D.; Croft, Lacey; Lero, Donna S.
Abstract: There is growing awareness of the necessity to recognize the unpredictable and fluctuating needs of people experiencing disability with episodic limitations that affect their ability to obtain and retain employment. Some people experiencing disability with episodic limitations have found employers who have developed a workplace culture that supports and accommodates (when required) their full inclusion as valued employees. Others are not so fortunate and, as a result, experience scrutiny and stigmatization in the workplace, under-employment, precarious employment, and, often, frequent periods of unemployment. Others who are unable to secure employment often find themselves excluded from income support programs that are based on a presumption of long-term and continuous limitations.
