Abstract: Set in early 16th century Nkore Kingdom (today Ankole in south western Uganda), The Song We Hear in the Mutooma Tree is a thesis novel that follows the disappearance of an eight-year-old boy, Himbisa, from his home in Buhungiro and the life he lives with a Bahima family, under the parenthood of two homosexual fathers, Keitirima and Kahinda, and a matriarch. As well, the novel follows the spiritual and emotional journey of the boy’s mother Mahoro as she searches for her son.
