Title: Gossamer
Author: Szpak, Caroline
Department: School of English and Theatre Studies
Program: Creative Writing
Advisor: Kuitenbrouwer, Kathryn
Abstract: A novel that explores consciousness as it relates to trauma, illness, the biology of fatal sleeplessness, genetics and their mutations, discontinuity, and the meaning and severing of atypical familial bonds through the underpinning concepts of inheritance, infection, and chance—the three ribboned sections that cycle through as a circadian rhythm. The novel’s structure, like its content, is informed by the science of protein formation and misfolding.
