Abstract

Onward Willow Teen Success (OWTS) is a resource program designed to aid students with their academic skills at the elementary school level. Students in Grades Seven and Eight lack some of the basic knowledge that is essential for entering the high school curriculum. This program is tailored to students who have English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) in hopes to fully equip them with the skills that are needed once they enter Grade Nine. The first section of this program contains lessons on the four basic mathematical components: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Exploring these concepts and how they can be applied to more advanced functions (decimals and fractions) will pave the way to gaining a foundation for high school mathematics. English and writing is the second section covered in this program. This section is designed to provide students with extra assistance in writing and Basic English skills. Proper English and writing skills are essential for success at the high school level. E.S.L students will benefit from these modules because it will provide them with the opportunity to improve and expand their writing skills. The third section of this program is designed to educate students on the importance of Time Management and Organization. Time management and organization are skills that most elementary students lack. It is our hope to educate these students on the importance of these skills and how it will benefit them in the future.
