Abstract

The Muck Crops Research Station, as part of the Department of Plant Agriculture and the Office of Research, University of Guelph, is responsible for conducting and coordinating research projects to solve problems in the production of vegetables grown in organic soils. In 2015, Muck Crops Research Station staff conducted, and/or co-operated on research projects with researchers from the Department of Plant Agriculture and School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph; researchers from OMAFRA, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Cornell and Wisconsin Universities; research departments of the Crop Production Chemical Industry, numerous seed companies, growers' organizations and growers. This report consists of two sections: the first contains highlights of research projects which were conducted in 2015 under the supervision of Professor Mary Ruth McDonald and other researchers at the University of Guelph. The second section contains highlights of various muck crops cultivar evaluations in 2015 in-field and storage trials, under the supervision of the Research Station Manager, Shawn Janse. The results published in this report should be treated as a progress report. Some of the chemicals used in the trials are not registered for use on the crops they were applied to. Additional trials may be necessary before firm conclusions and recommendations can be made.
