Title: Non-Chlorinated Solar Heated Outdoor Swimming Pool System
Author: Oosting, Andrew J.; Sakaguchi, Kendra M.; Maxwell, Mark A.; Richards, Johanna F.
Abstract: Natural swimming pools are rising in popularity due to the widely reported negative effects resulting from the use of harmful chemicals such as chlorine. As a result, the development of alternative treatment solutions for swimming pools has become a high priority. Educational facilities, like the University of Soeville, have expressed an interest in becoming leaders in sustainable development. The University has engaged in a project to build a natural swimming pool system, which excludes the use of chlorine. Ultraviolet disinfection and electrolysis have been deemed as suitable alternatives to conventional methods of disinfection. Solar heating through the use of flat plate collectors will provide efficient, reliable and sustainable energy through the swimming season.
