Title: Maitland Valley Conservation Authority Clean Up Rural Beaches program 1993 annual report
Author: Loeffler, Anne; Robinson, Brent
Abstract: In 1989, the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) completed a Clean Up Rural Beaches (CURB) Plan for the Maitland watershed. The CURB study was a response to public health concerns regarding elevated bacterial concentrations at swimming beaches along the Lake Huron shoreline. Funding for this study came from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy (MOEE) under the Provincial Rural Beaches Strategy (PRBS). The CURB Implementation Program is the second phase of the PRBS. Announced by the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy in August 1991, the CURB Program provides financial incentives to clean up sources of water pollution upstream of rural swimming beaches. 1993 was the third year of the CURB Implementation Program at the MVCA. The objective of this report is to provide a summary of the water quality improvement projects completed in the Maitland watershed and activities undertaken by MVCA CURB staff between April 1, 1993, and March 31, 1994.
