Title: Report #1: Study area selection, description and climate - Pilot Watershed Study, Soil and Water Environmental Enhancement Program
Author: Walker, R. R.; Sadler Richards, J.
Abstract: The Pilot Watershed Study (PWS) is a major SWEEP sub-program aimed at evaluating and demonstrating the benefits of established conservation farming systems at the watershed and smaller scales. This report focusses on the approach used in selecting the PWS study areas and explains how the approach addressed project requirements and objectives. The components of the study documented in this report have the following objectives: 1. select three pairs of agricultural watersheds in the Lake Erie drainage basin which are similar and which represent different landscapes, with commonly applied conventional farming practices, and a farming community which is open to the adoption of conservation farming systems, 2. compile physical and social information on these watersheds to allow for agronomic and environmental analysis, and 3. monitor meteorological parameters which affect crop performance and watershed hydrology and erosion-transport processes.
