Abstract

Tongue-tied is the story of one woman’s return home after her best friend’s death. While putting away her mother’s laundry, Aila discovers a mysterious note about her mother’s health. In a series of memories told in shifting perspectives from the past and the present, Tongue-tied is the story of the narrator as she tries to make sense of the past, while dealing with her difficulties in the present. Set mainly in Toronto, and also in Tanzania and the Philippines, Tongue-tied is a story about secrets, mother-daughter relationships, birth and death, loss and love.
