Title: A review of trends in Lake Erie water quality with emphasis on the 1978-1970 intensive study
Author: Rathke, Davie E.; Edwards, Clayton J.; Center for Lake Erie Area Research, Ohio State University; Great Lakes Regional Office, International Joint Commission
Abstract: The main purpose of this report is to aid Lake Erie jurisdictions, the 1978 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement signatories, and the International Joint Commission in assessing the success of collective efforts to reduce cultural eutrophication and contamination from toxic substances. A secondary purpose is to demonstrate the importance of physical, chemical, and biological relationships in interpreting empirical observations. The material presented to achieve these aims relies mainly on surveillance and monitoring studies along with conclusions from selected statistical interpretations and research results. As such, the report attempts to coalesce numerous studies into a concise statement about Lake Erie water quality.
