Title: Vicious Little Miracles

Abstract: Vicious Little Miracles is a collection of short stories that celebrates the stranger side of human lives, telling tales of fiction’s outcasts and also-rans. By approaching literary storytelling with techniques more common to comedy writing, especially Steve Kaplan’s concept of the “non-hero,” the collection aims to explore the absurd humour that skulks around the edges of both literature and real life. Imperfect and often inept, characters in the stories are met with calls to adventure far beyond the scope of their abilities: a wrecker uncovers an ancient structure beneath her junkyard and must decide what to do with it, a football player is benched when a golden retriever joins the team, a young gas station attendant finds himself out of his depth when he witnesses a kidnapping.
