The Walk Home Spliced

This thesis works toward a failed poetics of containment, drawing on the feminist (re)centring of the domestic and intimate as critical sites for creative and political engagement. Leaning on the work of cultural theorists and writers such as Jack Halberstam, Eileen Myles, Heather Christle and Renee Gladman who all, differently, grapple with the excess and waste qualities of art, the poems in this book-length collection explore local objects and agents (light, windows, noise, corners, garbage, animals, heat, etc.) for how they cut up, cut off and cut open space. Dream and ritual serve as vital material for this thesis that goes in and out of silence, absence and a kind of meaning that both multiplies and disappears. In this thesis, grief becomes another place the poet cannot land.
