Abstract

The objective of this study is to propose a methodology for developing an Indicator of Risk of Water Contamination for phosphorous (IROWC-P) applicable at the Soil Landscape of Canada (SLC) polygon level (1:1 million map scale). The methodology will be tested on a pilot basis for the province of Quebec. The extension of this approach to other provinces and at other hierarchical levels of application (e.g., farm level) are also being addressed. The work on an IROWC-P methodology started with a review of phosphorus losses from agriculture as a nonpoint source of pollution of surface waters.
