Abstract
This thesis is an investigation of love stories set against three different Canadian landscapes. The story follows Calum, the son of a prominent Canadian politician living in 1960s Rosedale, Maeve, a young woman of modest means living on the edge of the Bay of Fundy, and their daughter Ava, living fifty years later in a modern Toronto. While Calum and Maeve fight against the circumstances into which they were born, Ava both rebels against and covets the deep bonds she sees in her parents’ relationship. The story explores trauma, inheritance and the creative process as each character strives for self-actualization.
