Abstract: THE DIRTY VERSION is a dual narrative novel about disaffected second-generation Muslims struggling to negotiate the difference between good and evil in a post-9/11 world. Told from the perspectives of a hip-hop DJ in search of her drug dealer brother and an enforcer responsible for the same brother’s disappearance, the novel incorporates elements of hip-hop culture and Islamic mysticism to explore how we assign value to human life in the absence of objective Truth.
