Abstract
This thesis is a work of fiction about a lost boy named Nathan who combs the streets of downtown Toronto in a desperate attempt to find his drug-addicted mother before his grandmother, who’s in the last stages of lung cancer, dies. However, In the midst of Nathan’s search, he runs into Richard, a middle-aged man who’s equally lost, and who’s decided to end his own life. But a lot can happen in the course of a day and in each other both Richard and Nathan discover a strength and a courage that neither thought they had. Saving Richard is a story about loss, regret, friendship, letting go and moving forward. Moving forward out of darkness because what choice does anyone have?
