Abstract

Superbloom is a collection of short stories propelled by existential bewilderment and humour, hinging on the particularities of unsettled characters. A young woman is forced to return to her hometown in Nova Scotia after being mysteriously fired from her conservation job. Women’s friendships dissolve under their own weight. A teenager fulfills his dream of shooting big guns on a ranch but gets greedy in the process. These stories approach isolation, emerging adulthood, environmental influence, and intimate relationships, distilled in a contemporary Canadian landscape.
