Abstract
A glance into the perspective of a skateboarder and how we use things around us to show our creativity and passions.
Description
As a skateboarder, I am constantly on the lookout for skate spots. Us skateboarders seem to have a sixth sense. A third eye. A different perspective of our surroundings. What may just be a curb, a set of stairs, a sewer, or a ledge, skateboarders are able to see much more then their intended purposes. Not only that, but we are able to bring "life" to an object that is not living. I included sounds of skate tricks I have filmed in the past, but also kept the sounds coming after the land. The screams of happiness, the rewards of dedication, and even the tears of joy all seem to come from these inanimate objects.
The video and its context also relate to bricolage. Bricolage is something constructed or created from a diverse range of available things. Skateboarders use what's around them, wherever they are. They use what they can get. To someone that doesn't skate, a ledge can be used to sit on. Skateboarders will take that ledge, and instead use it to land the new trick they have been thinking about. The skaters that are extremely creative are able to use even more everyday structures and objects in our world. Again, this just relates to the different perspective skateboarders, such as myself, have on the world.
