Abstract
This thesis consists of two novella-length works of fiction, The Face of Grace and Transcendence. The Face of Grace is centered around a disfigured woman’s decision of whether or not to accept a deceased relative’s bequest – her beloved sister’s face. In Transcendence a wife learns that her husband is refusing surgery for temporal lobe epilepsy because he has been having religious experiences during his seizures and is afraid of losing his connection to God.
