Abstract

The Library's UX Team wanted to understand how students locate and retrieve physical library items. We talked to a mix of undergraduate and graduate students in July 2018. Based on our findings we recommend: (1) adding subject area headings to stackend signage to assist users in finding and browsing material; (2) increasing the size of stackend signage; (3) removing the word “Books” from stackend signage; (4) reorienting the floor maps so they reflect the way users are actually facing, rather than oriented to true north; (5) creating posters/ visual aids to assist in general wayfinding; and (6) designing creative, joyful signage that inspires!
