This thesis is an investigation of the versioning aspects of generational and individual histories and traumas as they constrain and catalyze a lived and artistic coming into purpose. Exploring the relationship between biographical wreckage and processual debris, this hybrid collection of poems is anchored by lyrical and visual iterations of self-erasure and -defacement in an attempt to multiply document a generative tangle of my remembered, imparted, and practiced realities, and explode the necessary fictions their intersections enact. This thesis is an inquiry into how much baggage poetry can’t reconcile, and what instantiating its incapacities might bind: to expose and embrace what the words won’t quite ever do, and to illuminate what may be otherwise drawn out in the process.
