Abstract

This thesis is a novel that covers a fateful day in the life of a fifteen-year-old boy named Phillip Stanley who lives in the small east coast town of North Sydney, Nova Scotia. On this day, Phillip discovers that the person who he thought was his mother is actually his grandmother. He finds out that while this secret has been kept from him, nearly everyone else in the town knows. Further, he learns who his biological mother is, as well as the fact that she is still living in the same town with a husband and child of her own. The story is told from the perspective of a local resident who has collected the story.
