Performance of Waste-Based Slow-Release Fertilizer on Creeping Bentgrass Putting Green Turf

This study tested the effectiveness and quality of a sponsored fertilizer on the growth of creeping bentgrass in a high sand rootzone. The sponsor's fertilizer was applied at the recommended volume and rate and was compared to two industry standards and a control plot. Data was collected on colour, quality, uniformity, density, shoot growth rate, and resistance to disease. The results of the study showed that all fertilized plots had higher nitrogen levels than the control. In general, the Rothsay and Miloganite plots had higher visual rates than Sustane and the control. Rothsay had the highest chlorophyll index by a large margin and the highest NDVI value by a smaller difference. The overall growth rate of the creeping bentgrass plots did not show a clear ranking of the fertilizers. It can be concluded that the test fertilizer, Rothsay, performs just as well or better than the industry standard fertilizers.
