Abstract

This thesis is an investigation of themes of loss through loosely interwoven storylines: a relationship that comes apart because of alcoholism; a family coping with death; and a city’s reaction to the abduction of a little girl – set against the legacy of generations of Indigenous children taken from their families by Canada’s Indian Residential School system and the Adopt Indian and Métis program.
