Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP) and natural resource companies are engaged in a partnership that can be a powerful mechanism to support Indigenous youth in the labour force and support economic reconciliation. However, the current partnership is not yet as collaborative as it could be with the companies. This limitation presents an obstacle for employing youth in the natural resource sector. Using case study design, this research explores how partnership between companies and not-for-profit organizations (NPO) can support a better understanding of what employment in the natural resource sector involves and means for Indigenous peoples. The findings suggested that the partnership needs to be formalized to achieve a sustainable and meaningful partnership with the corporate sector. Implementing cross-sector collaboration as the guiding model in the partnership will help achieve effective formalization.
